Do you smell smokey goodness? It’s BBQ season! Let’s savor these long days and beautiful cooler evenings to cook in the wild outdoors and enjoy a nice glass of wine. Which wines are best for these type of days? We recommend the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2013 Nebbiolo. Both wines will complement your BBQ meals and light summer taste buds.
Sauvy Summer Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is not a Chardonnay and it’s not a sweet wine. This sophisticated green grape is a balance of crisp fruit and herbaceous flavors. A traditional and classic light bodied white wine, the Sauvignon Blanc has a rich history starting in Bordeaux, France and traveling to New Zealand and California. With each region Sauvignon Blanc has adopted new flavor and aroma characteristics. In France the Sauvignon Blanc has bright citrus flavors. In New Zealand a Sauv Blanc may lean more towards grapefruit and passion fruit flavors. Heringer Estates Sauvignon Blanc grown in Clarksburg, Ca has flavors and aromas of peach, pear, and green tea. Like a cool breeze this wine is a classic crowd pleaser on hot summer days. Enjoy this wine with a heavy fatty cheese appetizer (such as brie) or a pasta salad.
Nebbiolo from Yolo
They say you only live once. If you want to live the good life try a Nebbiolo on a warm summer afternoon. This traditionally heavy red varietal has many aromatic characteristics of a lighter red wine and will not over power your taste buds on high temperature days. The Nebbiolo also has high tannin and can stand on its own with heavy BBQ and smoked meats and burgers. It is one of Italy’s most prized wines and one of Clarksburg’s new favorites for it’s beautiful rustic characteristics of leather, cherry, cranberry, and rhubarb pie. Enjoy the Nebbiolo with your main backyard BBQ crew. It is known to bring out some great stories and fun times.
