Mmmm, when I think about July and food, my mind always wanders to the iconic foods of the peak of summer. I think about funnel cakes, fried turkey legs, and well, just about anything fried at the State Fair. I dream about the ripest stone fruits – peaches, plums, nectarines and apricots – at their very best and freshest moment at the farmers’ markets. And I often fantasize about these fruits making it into rich flakey summer pie crusts! With the Courtland Pear Fair just a week away, my mind is on pears.
