It’s summer and we need some good reads to keep us distracted from the heat. Here are some more awesome wine and book pairings by our very own Heringer team members!
A favorite cult series: The Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
Wine Pairing: 2015 Petite Sirah
As the first book in George R. R, Martin’s gripping series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” it is the novel that first gives us a taste of the exhilarating landscapes of King’s Landing, Castle Black, and Winterfell, and the fascinating family rivalries between the Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens. For those of you who are avid fans of the HBO series, you’ll need to pace yourself as your one-glass-per-episode rule may need to be adjusted to suit the 694 pages. Big, bold and full of complexity, the Petite Sirah is an excellent companion to this tale.

A mind-bending time travel romp: All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai
Wine Pairing: 2013 Norton (To be released July 1st!)
This novel takes the almost trite sci-fi topic of time travel and basically upturns and redefines the entire genre. It is a tale about an alternate Jetsons-like present day of flying cars and instant meals that became possible after the invention of limitless, clean energy 50 years ago. In this 2016, the invention of a time machine is not only possible, but imminent. And one particular chrononaut (an astronaut of time travel), makes a world-altering paradoxical decision that changes the timeline of humanity. You will want to drink something totally unconventional, unlike anything you’ve had before. Something like the all-American 2013 Norton – It’s the wine of the future.

An epic classic: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Wine Pairing: 2013 Insieme
Who doesn’t love a great adventure tale? Meet Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, an endearing crew of dwarves and a slew of other fascinating, dangerous and lovable characters. In this very first text introducing the world of the arguably most famous trilogy ever written, The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien brings to life a very mysterious and magical earth with diverse beings of all kinds. The hobbit of the title, Bilbo, reluctantly joins a quest to return the dwarves treasure back to their rightful owners by way of fighting off a very terrifying dragon. Much like our Tuscan-inspired blend, the Insieme, this story is a delicious combination of mystery and adventure.
